These photos represent a small portion of the work that is actually performed on an engine or accessory at G&N.

For those of you who want to see more, we are happy to conduct complete tours of our facility with prospective or current customers. Just give us a call ahead of time to make arrangements.

General Plant Photos

The photos below show some of G&N’s extensive inventory of engines, accessories, new parts, and serviceable used parts.

Fuel Shop Photos

G&N has a full service fuel system department. We can repair and overhaul carburetors, fuel injection systems, relief valves, wastegates, and controllers.

Electric Shop Photos

Our electric department can repair and overhaul Bendix and Slick magnetos, alternators, starters, and generators. From 500 hour magneto inspections to a full overhaul, G&N has the capability to quickly turn around customer jobs thus saving you downtime.

  • G&N can overhaul and repair Ford and Chrysler alternators, Bendix and Slick magnetos, TCM starters, Prestolite starters, and generators.
  • G&N installs new Lamar starters, new Slick magnetos, and new Unison ignition harnesses where applicable on all engine overhauls.
  • G&N maintains a large core inventory of electrical components that can be overhauled as exchanges to meet customers needs.
  • A Lycoming starter being readied for assembly after overhaul.
  • As part of a sudden stoppage inspection, magnetos are required by manufacturer service bulletin to be disassembled, inspected, and overhauled.
  • Magnetos are tested after repairs and overhaul.
  • A dual magneto tester in operation.


Cylinder Shop Photos

G&N has an extensive cylinder department with complete overhaul and repair capabilities. Using our extensive equipment and skilled technicians, G&N can offer customers quick turns on cylinders.

  • G&N has a variety of equipment necessary to perform quality cylinder work.
  • All cylinders are heated to an even temperature in special ovens for weld repairs and insertion of valve guides and seats.
  • G&N is capable of precision grinding cylinder assemblies to remove all previous wear patterns (also to oversize dimensions).
  • A cylinder assembly is undergoing repair. Here an intake port is being polished.

  • A Bridgeport milling machine is used to surface exhaust and intake ports after repairs.
  • After precision grinding, cyclinders are machined honed to maintain integrity.
  • G&N has a large quantity of cyclinders available for immediate exchange.


Airframe Shop Photos

G&N offers a full service airframe shop that is capable of doing engine removal and installations, engine set-ups and troubleshooting, annual inspections, weighing, CorrosionX treatment, propeller balancing, and repairs.

Engine Department Photos

G&N’s engine department consists of several different shop areas: teardown and cleanup, inspection, paint, buildup, and test cell (dynamometer).

In these different shops the various engine repair and overhaul functions are performed along with support for our electric, fuel, and cylinder departments.

The photos below detail a small sample of our process. As always, G&N encourages in-person tours of our facility which allow complete viewing of our processes, personnel, and equipment.

  • A Lycoming engine is prepared for initial teardown following a sudden stoppage.
  • After the engine is disassembled, it is placed on its own cart which is organized by job process.
  • G&N uses an environmentally friendly process to clean aluminum and steel engine components.

  • Example of a Lycoming sump undergoing cleaning in our environmentally friendly machine which uses a combination of baking soda and water to clean parts. Yes ... we use genuine Arm & Hammer brand baking soda!
  • An important step in the inspection process is the ''magnaflux'' or magnetic particle inspection of all steel parts. In this photo our machine is being set up to inspect a crankshaft.
  • Another step of the inspection process is utilizing dye penetrant inspection to check for cracks. Here a crankcase half is undergoing the inspection process.
  • G&N uses multiple methods of detecting flaws on cast aluminum parts. This is an example of the heat check method.

  • Connecting rods are inspected, machined, and rebushed.

  • Part of the inspection process involves checking crankshaft flange run-out.

  • G&N balances the rotating mass parts to within 0 to 2 grams of the opposing parts.
  • Pistons are weighed as part of the balancing process. Pistons and other new parts are exchanged until balance is within 0 to 2 grams of the opposing parts.
  • G&N has the equipment necessary to perform quality machine work. This metal lathe has digital controls to ensure exact tolerances.
  • All engine components are painted individually prior to assembly for improved appearance and durability.

  • All Lycoming engine crankcases undergo a modification which helps to eliminate future oil leaks. Here the detail shows a slot cut above the camshaft saddle, which allows oil to flow back into the crankcase and not out between the case mating surfaces. Additionally, the case is machined to allow the installation of O-ring seals around the thru-bolt recesses.
  • A crankcase halve that has undergone the complete special modification to prevent oil leaks.
  • G&N has the capability of overhauling Continental A-65 to GTSIO 520 series engines and Lycoming O-235 to IO-720 series engines.
  • Our technicians check tolerances throughout the engines assembly.
